About Us

Our History

Turtle Creek Academy was established in 1998 by Virginia McDonald, in response to research about how preschool children learn and grow. Based on current science and best practices in education, Ms. McDonald created a stimulating curriculum with the help of her devoted and nurturing staff. From this insightful structure to our professional and caring teachers, Turtle Creek provides an optimal environment for children to flourish and reach their maximum potential.

Housed in the old Wortley Building, Turtle Creek Learning Academy is proud to be a part of the fabric of Marlboro’s rich history. Originally constructed to hold grain and potatoes, an old railroad line ran behind the building, where goods were loaded to be transported to markets up north. The train tracks have since been taken up, with a lovely shaded and paved nature trail now in its place.

Over the years, the Wortley has been used as an auxiliary train station, a nursery, and offices for small businesses, all the while maintaining its rustic charm. At TCLA, we believe that this little brick schoolhouse dovetails with the philosophy of our mission and values. Indeed, many parents have commented that walking into our school feels like coming home.
