Theme: We continue with celebrations this week. It will be hard to top last week’s projects and activities, but this week is dedicated to Read Across America and the literature of Dr. Seuss.

Last week is going to be hard to top…The Two’sDay, 2/22/22 celebration was spectacular! The Time Capsules were out of this world. The presentations of the 100th Day of Kindergarten posters were beyond amazing!! The children did a great job with them (thanks for lending a helping hand). They were so proud of their creations. Their public speaking skills are really blossoming. They have so much more presence and confidence than when they entered Kindergarten. Its so nice to see how they’ve grown and matured in such a few short months!!

Morning Work/Everyday Tasks:

  • Morning Do Now’s
  • Pledge of Allegiance & singing patriotic song
  • Calendar & Weather Chart
  • Days of the Week & Months of the Year songs
  • PLUS a little movin’ & groovin’, some wigglin’ & jigglin’ and lots of giggles!!

Math:

We will be wrapping up our money theme this week.  It was fun listening to them tell the class about how ‘rich’ they are because of all the coins & dollars they have. I think this was an enjoyable unit for them. They looked forward to their afternoon session of Money Math.

  • Penny = 1
  • Nickel = 5
  • Dime = 10
  • Quarter = 25
  • Half Dollar = 50

Reading:

The reading groups are working together like a well-oiled machine.

  • They are very comfortable breaking up into small groups. Other times they read independently and 1-on-1 with me.
  • They have recently begun to buddy up with a friend and read to/listen to their book (They’re not always in the same reader! I love this!)
  • We have students in various stages of reading levels, and all are progressing nicely towards their next book. I am so proud of each of them for the time & commitment they are putting into reading.

Special Notes & Gentle Reminders:

  • TODAY is day #28 of the February At Home Reading Challenge. The February time sheets should be handed in no later than Wednesday, 3/2. Please continue to Read! Read! Read!
  • When handing in the reading time sheets, please be sure to record ONLY the minutes read, NOT the names of the books read!
  • On Wednesday, 3/2 we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday…the children will decorate cupcakes, make blue Jell-O & green eggs. Of course it won’t be a party without hats, blowers and balloons…so be sure to ask your child about all the festivities!!

“Don’t give up, I believe in you all – A person’s a person, No matter how small.”
