Weekly Theme: Holidays Weekly Letter: Tt Weekly Number: 8 Weekly Color: Blue

Hello Pre-K Families! This week we will continue to learn and prepare for the upcoming holidays. We will also continue to explore one letter and one number every week. This week we will be focusing on the letter “Tt”and the number 8 as well as the color blue. Students will practice writing the letter “Tt” and learning the sound associated with it through a variety of activities. This work continues to reinforce that language is symbolic – letters represent sounds. Once students have mastered this concept and the short vowel sounds, then they will begin to learn how to blend the sounds to phonetically attack words. We make sure that students have mastered a specific prereading skill before movong on. That is the rationale for our flexible reading groups. Throughout the next few weeks, we will also be reviewing all the letters and numbers learned so far. Constant and consistent review is necesssary for these skills to be mastered. In addition, all the books we select to read to the class this week (and every week) are selected for specific learning objectives: Alphatales: When Tilly Turtle Came to Tea by Carol Puglian-Martin. This book is the springbook for students to brainstorm other words that start with the “T” sound. Turtle Song by John Archambault. Can students extract factual information from a story about a turtle? Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Iza Trapani. Compare this story to two other versions of this story/song. Students will learn this song and sing it throughout the week. Tikki Tikki Tempo by Arlene Mosel. A classic story of choral speaking. Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens. A story to enjoy about cleverness but also to understand that vegetables can be roots, stems or leaves. As an extension of this story we are going to classify some veggies ex.. carrots-bottoms, celery – top etc. The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse by Lorinda Bryan Cauley and The Tortoise and the Hare. Classic stories with important messages. There Was an Old Lady Who Swollowed a Fly by Simms Taback. Studnets listen to the story and then sequence events using felt pieces as well as creating our own sequence old lady. Toot and Puddle by Holly Hobbie. These stories reinforce the meaning of friendship. How can you be a good friend? I may not list the objectives of our stories every week, but I wanted to let you know the every thing we do is well planned and strategically selected. Enjoy this holiday season. Remember to slow down and embrace the moments. Thanks again for your support. On Friday we will be reading “The Teddy Bear’s Picnic” 🧸 by Jimmy Kennedy. We will take this opportunity and have our very own teddy bear picnic. If your child has a little bear please send in on Friday to join us for our picnic 🧺. In this week’s literature we will include some of our beloved holiday stories. Mrs.G🤩

*Lastly a word from Virginia McDonald,

Deepest gratitude goes out to our wonderful PTO for their help in making this event such a success. The children also worked so hard to festively decorate the classrooms for the holidays.
