Kindergarten Highlights October 28, 2019 Reported by Ms. Krachie
It’s beginning to look a lot like Halloween everywhere in our room! The addition of the spiders and spider webs plus the marvelous bats has readied our room for upcoming Halloween celebration. Along with the students, I am excited to share the bat reports this week and begin to take a peek at our skeleton. Spiders, bats, and skeletons Oh my! The class will continue with week 2 of our Being A Writer Series, sharing thoughts about a story, answering questions, and making connections between ourselves and the text. The class did an amazing job last week illustrating and writing our first pieces. After sharing a few fun poems about children jumping, hopping, and skipping, we brainstormed things we can do. Collectively we illustrated and wrote simple sentences to go along with our picture stories. We will forego the Making Meaning series this week as we finish up learning about our skeleton and culminate our study of bats and spiders. The students have done fantastic learning the classroom jobs and are excited to have the responsibility of taking over the morning meeting. It helps the individual with empowering them as head of the class and the students to be involved with their fellow classmate. Don’t forget to ask about their current classroom position. Please allow your child to watch the news if they are assigned the meteorologist job. It will assist them in their weekly responsibilities while presenting to the class. Our literature this week will have a Halloween theme incorporating our letter of the week and skeletons. We will even have a block challenge to build the best skeleton! This week we will introduce/review the letter Ll and the number 7. We will incorporate literature and use activity centers and homework to help build on these skills. In math this week we will review numbers 1 – 6, use Halloween and a Haunted House to practice number words, practice simple patterns (AB, AAB, ABB), gain experience graphing, and revisit odd and even numbers. We will also use reasoning to complete a Halloween Categories math worksheet.Reminder for students:
- Bring your folder to school everyday
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes
- Bring a healthy lunch and snack with refillable water bottle
- As we near Thursday further information will be available about the Halloween Parade. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather outlook improves for the parade and trick – or – treating. Thank you for your support at home and as always please feel free to send in notes or ask questions.
