Pre-K Highlights September 9th – September 13th
Weekly Theme: Back to School / Feelings and Emotions Skill Development: Circles and Ovals
It was so wonderful meeting all of you at our orientation on Friday! We are even more excited after spending some time with you to start a new year in Pre-K. We have so many wonderful things planned for our upcoming school year! This week we will be focused on creating the initial structure of routines and responsibilities for our classroom. The children will begin learning the routines that allow for our schedule to flow and for them to maximize their time at our school. As a class, we will create the rules for the classroom and will learn: how to transition from one activity to the next, how to sit and participate during our morning and afternoon meetings, and how to share the classroom space. All week we will be singing numerous “name songs” so that everyone gets to know each other and feels comfortable all year round. Everyday our “Do Now” will be to trace our first names. During structured centers, students will create self-portraits and use Play-doh to reflect different kinds of emotions. Our skill development for the week will consist of recognizing and learning how to draw both circles and ovals. We will be creating an all about me page, painting with vegetables to go along with one of our stories How are you Peeling by Saxon Freymann, and much more.
