May 6, 2019 4:29 pm Pre-K Highlights May 6th – May 10th   Weekly Theme: Mother’s Day Weekly Number: 1-20 Weekly Skill: Sequencing and Ordinal Numbers   Hello Pre-K Families!   This week in class we will be preparing for our special Mother’s Day event that will take place Friday morning at 10:30 am in our classroom. We will discuss all of the things we love about our moms while creating special gifts for Mother’s Day.   Two skills we will focus on this week are sequencing and ordinal numbers. Students will create sequencing steps to describe the order in how to do things such as, make a bowl of cereal, brush their teeth, and make a sandwich. As a class we will sequence hands-on while planting our own flower cups. We will talk about the steps it takes to grow a flower. We will continue to use ordinal numbers while discussing sequencing.   In class we will continue to review how to recognize our numbers and letters and also how to properly form them. We will continue to review numbers one through twenty as well as basic addition using numbers zero, one, and two. We have also begun discussing numbers in order. Students have been given number lines with missing numbers and will be asked to identify which numbers come in between, before and after. These activities help to develop number sense.  This is a game you can play in the car. “What number comes in between 11 and 13?” “What number is before 17?” “What number comes after 15?” if they can answer these quickly and accurately, then ask “What number is two numbers after 11?” Etc.   • Friday May 10th, we will have a special Mothers Day event for our moms. This event will take place at 10:30 am in our classroom.
  • Scholastic book orders for May will be sent out this week.
  • Please make sure your child has a set of weather appropriate clothes under his/her cubby. Please make sure there are two pairs of underwear in your child’s bag.
  • Happy Mother’s Day to all of you wonderful Mommies!
