Pre-K highlights for January 28th to February 1st
Hello Pre-K Families,
Hope you are all, as always, enjoying your weekend. First I would like to say congrats to our class on Multicultural Night. They were AMAZING!!!! I love how they practiced at home and were so excited to do the show for their families. It was very special, and we had a lot of fun learning about Italy.
We have an array of activities planned for our letter, number and theme this week. The letter of the week is /Gg/ and our number of the week is fourteen. We will be creating Gingerbread people, after we read The Gingerbread Boy by Richard Eglieski and The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell Ernst. I cannot wait to see the childrens’ creations.
One of our stories this week is The Three Billy Goats Gruff by: Paul Goldone. We will start to delve more into recalling details from a story and sequencing. What came first, then next… what is the correct order of the details of the story? We will also create our Giraffe G, compile our class /Gg/ list, do some rhyming with Goose on the Loose by Phil Roxbee Cox, learn about Groundhog Day and have fun reenacting with our puppets after reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Jan Brett. When we read Guess Who?, your child will have fun learning about animals while developing important reasoning and problem solving skills.
Although we have been working on the days of the week since October, we will start to cover them more concretely. “By learning the names of the days of the week, children can make reasonable predictions about what is going to happen on a particular day and avoid being constantly surprised. An important part of learning about the days of the week is understanding the terms today, tomorrow, and yesterday. These terms allow children to discuss their activities (and understand when other people are discussing activities) by properly referencing what they did the day before or what they plan to do the following day.” (Excerpt from schoolsparks.com) We will be creating individual “My Days of the Week” books so they will have something tangible for an abstract concept.
I’m looking forward to another week filled with fun and learning.
