Dear Pre-K Families,
Happy Sunday! I hope you are all having an incredible weekend. This week we will be continuing our study of Italy. Last week we learned about Michelangelo, how he was a sculptor and painter, his process and his steps to prepare for painting the Sistine Chapel. The children then created their own masterpieces of their favorite adventure or experience, using a method similar to his, lying on their backs. They said it was a little hard and fun. They cannot wait for you to see their art pieces on Thursday night at our multicultural celebration.
This week we will continue to prepare for our Multicultural Night, learning our numbers in Italian and important facts about Italy. We will also learn more about Italy’s Coliseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. In addition, our letter of the week is /Xx/ and our number is thirteen/13. Please remember that every Wednesday is Show and Tell. This activity was the childrens’ request and is meant to enhance their understanding of the letter of the week. Please have them look around the house for items that may start with the letter of the week or you may copy a picture of from the internet. After they have their item, then have them think about clues to help the other children guess. Write the clues (1-3) down on a piece of paper and place it in the bag or box with the item. This activity encourages growth in speaking, phonics and critical thinking. They really look forward to this as a class and some were upset that they didn’t have anything on Wednesday to share. I will do my best to remind them every Tuesday. So this week…happy searching for /Xx/.
I also wanted to share with you that we read Incredible You! by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer last Thursday and discussed the very thought provoking follow up questions within the book. We joined with the other Pre-K and I was amazed at their answers. The greatest challenge for them was answering what made them special/unique. We discussed about drawing a picture of their answer, so if they drew one please have them bring it in.
We also had our first successful Student of the Week with Aiden. He did an amazing job sharing his poster and answering questions. They are really growing with their speaking!
Looking forward to seeing you on this Thursday night at our Multicultural Open House at 6:00. Please feel free to bring a favorite dish reflective of your heritage. Remember – nut free – please. Please RSVP if you haven’t already. Remember we are off tomorrow!!!
See you on Tuesday,
Mrs. M
