December 3, 2018 5:41 pmReviewing Letter: A-IIntroducing letter: JNumber: All Shape: AllColor: AllTheme: Getting ready for the holidaysHello parents! Welcome Back and Happy Monday.Wishing you a Happy Hanukkah and a happy beginning of this wonderful holiday month. Our letter this week is the letter J. Along with many activities and stories dovetailing with the Letter “J,” we will be enthusiastically preparing for the holidays and getting our room decorated for the Holiday Party on Saturday, December 8th, from 12-3.This week, during circle time, we will introduce the letter J and review the letters A-I. We will begin with naming things that begin with the letter J and continue to review shapes, colors, letters, number 1-10, and the weather and season. Since Hanukkah starts on Sunday night, we will discuss this holiday and make dreidels and menorahs. We will begin to decorate the room for Christmas as well. Besides creating these holiday crafts, we will begin to dazzle our crafts with jewels. We will be sorting and counting jewels and decorating a large letter J with them. We will also begin working on our little winter book that includes pictures of winter related items. No “J” week will be complete without the nursery rhyme “Jack and Jill.” We will say it, sing it, and act it out. Our literature includes Hanukkah books as well as favorite “J” books. When we read Jump Frog Jump, the children will jump every time they hear the word jump. When we read The Jacket I Wear in the Snow, each child will be assigned one of the Velcro snow items mentioned in the story and place it on the felt board as we tell this charming tale. The silly book Julius is about a family who has a pig for a pet. The children will find it hilarious. We continue to work with children to improve their fine motor and listening skills. They are learning the social skills of sharing, taking turns and using their words to express their needs. Reminder:
