Pre-K Highlights
Week of December 3rd – December 7th
Weekly Theme: Bears
Weekly Letter: Bb
Weekly Number: 8
Hello Pre-K Families!
This week we will be learning all about bears and hibernation. We will be focusing on 4 different types of bears, Polar Bears, Black Bears, Brown Bears, and Panda Bears. On Friday we will have a special teddy bear day where your child can bring his/her favorite teddy bear to school. Other than B for Bears, we will be discussing different things that start with the letter B such as bumble bees, bubble gum, birthdays, and balloons.
Throughout the week we will be learning the parts of a bear, what bears eat, where each species lives, how big each type of bear is and much more. The students will be creating their own letter B bunny, a special polar bear craft, a mini bear book, and they will also be creating a math graph using gummy bears. As a class, we will observe gummy bears “growing” during a fun science experiment. We will also learn about hibernation and discuss the important things bears do before hibernating. We will watch a short educational video about the hibernation process.
Our number of the week is eight. Students will not only practice writing this number, but they will also practice identifying what a group of eight things looks like. Different ways we will be learning this number include making groups of eight with our Unifix Math Cubes, Identifying the number eight in a number scramble, creating an eight with play doh, and handwriting eights on our own.
Reading groups have been going great and we are so proud of all your children! Your child should be able to recognize and properly form numbers 1-7 and the following letters : E,T,I,O,P,D,F,H,L, and C. Please continue to implement the skills we’ve learned at home.
Happy Hanukkah to all families who celebrate! Last Friday afternoon we joined with Kindergarten to make potato latkas and read a story about Hanukkah. This week we will discuss more about Hanukkah through literature. Students will have fun playing with dreidels, eating gelt, and making a menorah craft.
