Pre-K Highlights for the week of October 15th- October 20th
Weekly Theme: Fire Safety
Weekly Letter: Ff
Weekly Number: 3
Hello Pre-K Families!
I hope you all had an incredible weekend. It seems that we are actually getting Fall weather now! We will be continuing the theme of Fall throughout the entire season with other themes built in each week. This week we will have fun learning all about fire safety and the letter /Ff/. We will discuss how a fire can start, how to stay safe in a fire, how to make a fire safety plan and how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
Our main art project this week will be a flag, inspired by the 1950’s artist, Jasper John. His artistic exploration of how people see the things around them is what inspired most of his work. As your child starts to take in the world around them, this art work, along with “The Leaf Man” we did last week, will start to initiate their own interpretation of their world. I cannot wait to see what they create! All of our other crafts and creations will be inspired by the letter /Ff/…Feathers, fire, Flamingos, oh my!
We will continue to develop fine motor skills making patterns with playdough, creating our “Fire F” by manipulating tissue paper and cutting with scissors. I am very proud of the progress in class with everyone’s writing skills. It’s a big adjustment to go from thick markers and/or crayons to pencils; they are adjusting nicely. Their scissor skills are strengthening as well :). We will continue to focus on writing the letter and number of the week with different skill levels throughout the days of the week. By the end of the week, all students should be able to properly form both the weekly letter and number.
Please continue to remind your child that the first letter of their name is capital followed by all lowercase letters. I know this is an adjustment for those writing in all CAPS. As they hear the repetition at home and school, they will remember. Repetition provides the practice that children need to master new skills. Repetition helps to improve speed, increases confidence, and strengthens the connections in the brain that help children learn. We have another fun-filled, learning week at TCLA. Tomorrow we will be having a Fit 4 Kids assembly for the whole school. They will be talking about healthy eating and Halloween choices. If you receive these highlights in time, have your child wear his/her Turtle Creek T shirt. If not, it’s okay. We encourage school spirit on days when we have school wide presentations. On Wednesday we will going “pumpkin picking” at our PTO Pumpkin Patch on the grass and will think of creative ways to decorate them.
Reminders:
- Fit 4 Kids Assembly – Monday October 15th. Children will explore how to stay healthy, eat well and exercise.
