October 9, 2018 2:59 pm Happy Fall!   Happy Trails Farm and Pony Rides: Hard to believe we have been in school for a month. September just flew by. Happy Trails Farm and Pony Rides was such a success! Even though the day was cool, cloudy and drizzly, our students brought sunshine to the parking lot as they engaged with all the animals in the pen and rode the adorable pony!   Field Trip to Sandy Hook: Our Pre-K and Kindergarten students loved the trip to Sandy Hook where they got to learn about ocean animals and observe some of the sea life right on the New Jersey shore. They returned to school so proud of all the seashells that they collected. We knew it was such a great trip by how tuckered-out our children were when they returned to school.   Picture Days: Children had their pictures taken on October 9th and 10th by Life Touch. You will get a packet containing proofs within a few days from us.  There will be an online code to order pictures, should you choose to do so.   Columbus Day – Professional Day: The State of New Jersey and our licensing agency require our teachers and administrators to accumulate professional development hours throughout the year. On Monday, Columbus Day, the teachers gathered all day to hear a presentation on STEAM from Dr. Lopez, an early childhood specialist. We learn new things to incorporate into our teaching, but moreover, we are always thrilled with these presentations because they assure us that we are doing so much that reflects Best Practices in early childhood education. All of the specialists that present are delighted with the high quality of education we offer.   Pumpkin Patch: On Wednesday, October 17th, the PTO will be donating pumpkins to create a little pumpkin patch on the grassy areas around the school. The children will go out and pick a pumpkin to decorate and then take home.   Wearing the Pink: On Wednesday, October 24th, we ask that your child wear pink to support breast cancer awareness and research. This particular effort is near and dear to our hearts. Ms. McDonald is one-year cancer free.  Your sons may not want to wear pink; if that is the case, you can have them wear a pink sticker or anything else that you have that they can pin on their shirt. If they come in without pink, we will have something for them to add to their clothes. The teachers will sensitively and appropriately explain the wearing of the pink.   Halloween Parties and Parades: October 31st We hope that you are thinking about your Halloween costumes. It will be here in a few weeks. We will have Halloween parties in the classrooms and a parade around the school with all of our students. The parade will take place at 10:45. Please note that Mrs. Cappelluti’s Tuesday-Thursday students ONLY will have a parade on Tuesday, October 30th.   Teachers will tell you more about the time of their parties and the things you can contribute, but understand, the food should be limited to one sweet treat. The rest should be fruit, ice cream, and/or healthier snacks. We don’t want our students on sugar highs that day -enough of that will follow.   If you want to send in “goody bags” for the kids in the class, please send in bags of things that aren’t food. (pencils, erases, crayons, etc.)   Social Media: Ms. Kasey is our school’s social media specialist. She posts pictures of our school events. Please take time to like us on Facebook and like our pictures. We would also appreciate if you would share information about the school with your friends. There is nothing more powerful than word of mouth and Facebook provides that way to communicate. We will be adding Instagram to our social media reach. Thanks in advance for your support.   Avatar – Spa Month: Our favorite spa in town is Avatar on Route 520, (732) 332-1102.This month they are having $50 specials on a facial, a massage and a body scrub. If you haven’t been to Avatar yet, give them a call and schedule an appointment. Tell them that Turtle Creek sent you.  Your body will thank you for this!
