Pre-K Highlights for the week of October 1st – October 5th
Weekly Theme: The Ocean
Weekly Letter: Oo
Weekly Number: 1 / one
Hello Pre-K Families!
I hope you all enjoyed this beautiful fall weekend! We had a great week learning our first letter /Cc/ and experiencing Happy Trails Farm. We had so much fun petting the donkey, sheep, baby goat, bunnies and riding the pony. It was awesome! Even more so, I was so happy to see how proud they were with their work. They took pride in creating their caterpillars and I’m looking forward to watching this quality grow throughout the year.
This week our letter is /Oo/. Our week will consists of all things /Oo/, including the number one and the theme: the ocean. Your children are prepared for writing this letter since they just made ‘half circles’ when we learned about the letter /Cc/. I will be sending home a copy of how we teach each letter, so the verbiage at home and school are the same. Consistency helps students develop routines, builds momentum and helps them to thrive. It also gives children a sense of security and helps develop their skill. It will be in their folder on Monday.
The ocean will be explored through a variety of different activities and crafts. Our week will be filled with rainbow fish, dolphins, sharks, seahorses, octopi and more! Our movement this week is inspired by the book Wiggle Like an Octopus, written by Harriet Ziefert & Simms Tuback. While learning about various types of fish, we will create rainbow fish, seahorse and octopus crafts. We will integrate S.T.E.A.M. into our week by creating a seashell fossil using model magic, playing with sensory bins filled with sand and creating their own water bottle experiment of the ocean layers. (Please bring in an empty 16.9oz water bottle in for this project by Tuesday.)
As always, we will continue to practice writing their first names and use scissors with various projects to strengthen our fine motor skills. At the end of our week we will be taking a field trip to Sandy Hook. This field trip is a great conclusion to our ‘Oo week’. Our adventure begins as soon as we enter the bus! The students love it and for most of them this is their first time riding on one. We will continue our ocean adventures by shell hunting, seeing different fish, having a picnic on the beach and just having a full day immersed in learning and exploring. Please remember to be at Turtle Creek no later than 9:00 am. You will need to pack a complete disposable and labeled lunch for your child. No glass please. *Also include an extra plastic bag for shell hunting.
Looking forward to our week,
Mrs.M
