Weekly Theme: Fairy Tales/ Nursery Rhymes
Weekly Number: 18
Math Practice: Subtracting with 0 and Ordinal Numbers
This week in Pre-K we will explore different fairy tales, and nursery rhymes. Some fairy tales we will read about and discuss are Rapunzel, Cinderella, The Prince and the Pauper, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Three Little Pigs. Nursery rhymes we will learn are Ba Ba Black Sheep, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Jack be Nimble, Hey Diddle Diddle, Jack and Jill, and Humpty Dumpty. We will use themed based worksheets while learning about patterns, sequencing, classifying, and ordinal numbers. For science this week, we will do a “Humpty Dumpty” egg drop challenge. Students will fill their bags with different materials to support “Humpty Dumpty” from cracking when he is dropped. We will discuss force while conducting this experiment. We have learned about addition for a little over a month now and feel that all of the students are ready for simple subtraction. Students will learn the difference between addition and subtraction while beginning to understand how to subtract with zero. We will use various manipulatives to help us visually recognize what subtracting with zero looks like. Next Friday, May 4th we will be going on a field trip to Monmouth University to attend a play. Please return your child’s permission slip ASAP. The bus will leave promptly at 9:15 so please be at school no later than 9.Weekly Literature:
